Gabbi’s Giggles
Over the past year and a half, I have been blessed to be introduced to my dear friend and colleague, Arni Divinagracia. Every day I see her, she always has a positive attitude and a big smile. She can liven up any room and cheer up any person with her generosity and warmth. It truly is a pleasure working (literally) side-by-side.
This year, I was fortunate to meet Arni’s two daughters, who are both as genuine as their mother. Gabbi, the oldest, just turned 8 years old. Earlier this year, she was diagnosed with Ullrich Congenital Muscular Dystrophy, a rare form of neuromuscular disease. Gabbi’s uplifting and positive attitude gave her the strength and desire to learn more and raise awareness about this disease. She has done such an oustanding job and has touched the lives of so many people. By raising awareness, there is hope to ultimately find a cure for muscular dystrophy. In September, Gabbi was recognized for her support of MDA and was invited to be a part of the 2009 Jerry Lewis/MDA Telethon.
Gabbi is proof that age does not matter when it comes to making a difference. She has inspired so many people and has raised a great deal of awareness for MDA. This year, she created her own team to participate in the MDA 5K Stride & Ride. The name of team was “Gabbi’s Giggles,” which appropriately suited her uplifting attitude. Throughout her efforts, Gabbi raised close to $5,000, which will go towards finding a cure.
The MDA 5k Stride & Ride took place on Saturday, October 25th at Yorba Regional Park in Anaheim at 10AM and the event was a huge success! The turnout was great and Gabbi’s Giggles had one of the largest teams – which is awesome, considering this is their first year! It is definitely an event I will look forward to every year!
